Good afternoon, apologies if this is in the wrong section. I've noticed one of the photographers for a newspaper here has recently been posting photos from various places across North Wales, they're a big distance apart so I assume they're driving, and not walking/cycling in between. So for you people whose main work is photography, are you free to travel around as it's classed as work?

Yeah I'm doing bit of cycling and walking in the day time but there are a few places I'd like to go to for some sunset pics. I'm now wondering if this is allowed if they're within a 5 mile radius.

"People can also now drive to play golf, take part in angling, or enjoy watersports, but only if it's local to them. Driving beyond five miles to take part in such pursuits is not allowed according to the Welsh Government. Cyclists, however, are being instructed to still start and finish their rides from home, although they are permitted to travel well beyond the five mile radius on a long ride of 40 miles or more, which is seen as a form of “active” travel. The same goes for running or walking."

So if I can drive within 5 miles to fish then surely I can for a photo?

if it’s your full time job, then yes.

^^ Exactly this.

There has been no restriction at all on travelling to/for work under the Welsh Administration legislation if you cannot work from home.

I've been carrying a copy of my Companies House Incorporation Certificate, SIC Codes and proof of address (North Wales). Only been asked the once, had a great chat with the Bobbies and carried on shooting.

Interesting! If I were not semi-retired I would have looked more carefully at this. As it is I've been enjoying lockdown a lot! My vehicle hasn't been moved for weeks......

This is an extract from the WAG guidance:

"With the exception of the organisations covered in the guidance on Business Closures the government has not required any other businesses to close - indeed it is important for business to carry on"

Yes that’s what I thought
I’m happy to stay in the rules but I can’t see any difference between driving to a local pond to go fishing or driving there to take some photos of dragonflies etc
Edit and just to confirm I haven’t been to any nature reserves in Wales and have missed the spring butterflies local to me

There are no restrictions on the type of outdoor activity (after 1st June), at least that is how I read the guidance.

Outdoor activity
Developing scientific evidence demonstrates that virus that caused Covid-19 decays quickly (a few minutes) in strong sunlight (SAGE paper SAGE35-2d). This means that being outdoors gives a much lower risk of transmission than being indoors. In light of this, there are no longer legal restrictions on the type of outdoor activity you can undertake within your local area, how often you can go outdoors or how long you spend outside. Indeed, exercise and other outdoor recreation is generally beneficial for health and wellbeing, and so it is strongly encouraged.

Taken from that link you sent -
"Any kind of outdoor activity can be undertaken locally, which as above generally means within about 5 miles of your home. "

And of course the 2m apart rule still applies, but still a big step forward in getting out to do things, especially for those without gardens.

The key is in your question. Journalists have exemption from any restrictions when they are working.

Living in north wales I have only been out about 4 times down to the castle and estuary (flint) and that’s about 250 yards away . I did chance a trip onto the Wirral last week due to sheer frustration but the amount of cyclists ,dog walkers and mindless cretins on the beaches plus a total lack of open toilets soon sent me scurrying back to the peace and quite and that’s in 11 weeks ... after seeing the carnage to the beaches etc in England rubbish, used toilet paper ,nappies etc strewn around I dread to think what will happen here once the floodgates are opened

Wales (and Scotland too) don't seem to be as daft as England so you will probably open up to other welsh people and stay closed to the English (which I wouldn't blame you for). The rule change from 'don't travel' to 'travel anywhere in England' is bit of a joke and the problems that have occurred were obvious to happen. Anyone but Westminster could see that. Personally I'm hoping for a few weeks of rain as that's the only thing that will solve the problem in England.
