Can anyone recommend a company who are good (reliable, quick, good value, etc) at transferring video tapes to DVDs? A friend of mine has a lot of DV and VHS tapes which he'd like to convert, and isn't sure that he wants to go through all the hassle with unfamiliar hardware and software. Unfortunately I know nothing whatsoever about video, but I hope somebody here does...

I can't recommend any, because I've never used any; always done it myself. Anyone that does provide a service like this won't be cheap, because it's got to be done in "real time".

Not much help, I know.

Possibly not overly expensive (it's subjective, I know) but, several years ago I had a load of old family cine films transferred to DVD's & I didn't find it restrictive financially, especially with all the breaks/splicing that needed doing.

I did a cine film once. That was the first, and last, time that I'll be doing it

Unless he has deep pockets, DIY is the way to go. It is tedious but not that difficult. Otherwise search locally, my local hardware store offered the service but it was not cheap
.

A Google suggests it could be something like £27 per transfer.
