Hi all

My OH has an old Moto E phone and for her birthday I have bought her a new phone (a G50.........she mentioned in the past that she did not want too big a new phone but there is nothing I could find closer to the old Moto E in screen size with the 'Vanilla and unbloated' version of Android OS....so bigger it has to be  )

So, to the subject, she of course has her phone contacts and her gmail account email plus various Apps, though like WhatsApp I surmise as that is linked to her phone number once the App installed on the new phone the Account will be OK. I don't think she will be too concerned if the history is lost....but would be nicer if all her threaded conversations are transferred to the new phone.

What is the appropriate and simplest way to ensure all (as much as possible?) of the data [and Apps ~ though as above is it just a matter of installed them and they will be ok/activated] is able to be transferred to the new phone.

TIA for the insights and guidance as to the recommended methods instructions :)

I assume she has a Google account? if so IME you really don't need to do anything, log the new phone into her google account and the google pixies will sort it out out for you - in reality Google Play knows what apps you have installed and all the settings are backed up by Google and should just be restored on to the new device. Caveat, it is a few years since I last did this bit it was easy.

This should work, it won't know about pictures and such in folders but all your apps and stored info should seamlessly transfer in a few minutes

Also make sure what’s app is backed up on before you start the move across so you have all the messages.

Connect the old phone to your computer (wifi or USB) and use file explorer to copy all photo and doc folders from internal storage and, if used, SD card to the pooter

Disconnect Old and connect new phone do a transfer in reverse, You keep the files on the pooter as a useful backup

yeah this for sure do a manual push backup on your old phone first.

when i do a new phone first i setup the new phone on WIFI without moving the SIM and once you are happy that all the apps have sorted themselves out as people say using the same google login then the last thing move the SIM across

Thanks again for the added insights :)

Quick extra......just where are the phone contacts stored, I surmise on the SIM itself in its own 'phonebook'

they should be attached to the google account , when you create one it sort of assumes that.
check on the phone in the app "google contacts" it should show them in there.
