OK, so I hope this isn't too much of a noob question but what apps are good for finding traffic problems - or maybe finding out if my route has any would be a better idea?
I am such a basic user of things like mobile phones and my sat nav is about 8 years old so am clueless about such things..

I don't mind paying if it is worth it, or would a new satnav make sense ?

Both Apple maps and Google maps offer that functionality if you have a smartphone.

Waze is the best for traffic in my experience. It is really good.

How good are tom toms for traffic data?

I havent used waze in a while, but when i did use it, it missed some significant jams in cardiff.

I loved waze and had elvis giving me directions, but then like all sat navs it started sending me the wrong way, then it started to drain my battery even when the app was closed. So if it doesn't drain your battery and you only use it for incident reports then it's very good

Waze is very good. It learns your preferred routes too so if you ignore it and go your own way it'll stop you sending its way.

I wouldn't use waze without the phone being plugged in unless it was for a short journey.

All satnavs can send you the wrong way. Waze seems to be the best at finding good routes and the journey estimates seem to be quite accurate. The app itself can be an arse sometimes though.

Yet another thumbs up for Waze. I've been using it for a while now and it has saved me some serious journey time re-routing me around problem spots. You have to have faith in it as sometimes the re-routing can seem somewhat aggressive and random but it has yet to let me down.

Google own it now and have started to integrate the traffic data into Google maps. The driving navigation and social aspects of Waze are still far superior to Google Maps in my opinion. It does Safety (Speed) Camera alerts for free.
