I'm struggling with this one.

I'd go for a nice wooden jewellery box but she has one, not wood though. I thought about a wooden pen but I got her some hand made pens a while back when she passed an exam... so that's another dead end and we already have a heart with a verse in it so that's out too.

She has a picture she likes very much of her and her dog and I keep thinking it'd be nice to get a sort of cameo of that but I've no idea who could or would do one or if anyone does anything like this. Other than that... I'm open to suggestions :D Clean ones please :D

Flyphots (of this parish) makes nice wood pens and might have/be able to source a native Thai one for you/her. I got Mrs Nod a wood picture frame for our 5th anniversary and she has one of our wedding photos in it (the only one we ever see!)

Hmm... Romantic? Wood? Nope - nothing (clean!!!)

Engraved wooden love heart(s) ?

For example here

Welsh love spoon?

I've never heard of that but as my mothers family are from Wales that could be something to think about. I'll look into it. Thank you.

PS.
I see they do necklaces too.

I know you lot so well :D

Reactions: Nod
Just looked at the time and realised that it was staring me in the face! Holzkern make watches (well, recase movements) in wood. The link takes you to their women's section.

A nice idea Nod but she doesn't really bother with watches. I bought her a nice mechanical one and she has a nice battery powered one but mostly she wears one of those smart watch thingies that tells you... everything... and connects to electronic stuff.

I believe "giving wood" is a euphemism in some of the colonies :exit:

Clothes pegs and a rolling pin.

Every woman's dream.

:exit:

hehehehe :D

Back in her home country she didn't have a rolling pin so when I cooked for her and her family and needed one I used a bottle. Since moving to the UK she's got very into cooking so a rolling pin could actually go down quite well. I'm not sure about those pegs though.

PS.
I got a bit carried away with that Welsh love spoon and the thought of a necklace in that style but then had to remind myself that it was to be wood so the necklace is out but the spoon is a possibility.

I'm still looking for ideas though.

There are several good pyrography (wood burning) artists online that will burn a picture onto a piece of wood.

I have a family friend who has done a couple for me, unfortunately, MS has put a stop to that.

Hmmm. Very Very interesting. I thought about some sort of cameo thingy but this looks to be easier. Thank very much. Link saved and I'll look into this.

I can understand the laser bit but how do they get the colour in?

I`d get mine a coffin? Let`s be honest it`s not like she ain`t gonna be needing it at some point.

YES! a tree is a possibility but not a Bonsai as I suggested one at Harrogate flower show and she said they're too much work.
Obviously depends on the overall height & spread after say 10 years but for smaller trees (aimed at smaller gardens?) here is one page that might be of interest?

I think I'm tending towards a picture on wood but with something in the garden being something to talk about later.

She'll be away for two months and will miss our anniversary so the little present of the picture on wood (which may well be the choice) will wait until she comes back and the something in the garden might have to be talked about later this year, decided upon and then acted upon next year.

Thanks all for your time and your help. It's appreciated :D

Hi all :D

Just a quick update...

I went for a picture printed on wood and it's just arrived and it's lovely :D

I'm a bit disappointed that it's plywood rather than solid wood but as far as I could see every company I looked at used plywood so it must be the chosen thing. The picture itself looks good with good detail retained in the dark areas so I have no complaints and it was all done by a UK company. It arrived late as it was due on Friday but they didn't ship it until Friday so it arrived today. Other than that I'm happy and it even has a high quality metal hanging mount and spacers on the bottom so it sits square on a wall :D

Many thanks for all who gave suggestions :D

6th anniversary traditional gift seems to be sugar. Oh er...

Just thought I'd update this thread with a picture of Mrs WW opening the box...

Unfortunately there's a really obvious fault in the image which I didn't see when it first arrived. I don't think I'd have missed it as it is very obvious so I think it's something that's developed over time. Maybe there was something on the wood which has leached through the ink? I don't know. The good news is that she loves it and the company has agreed to supply a reprint.

Just an update and a warning.

The company I used is Optimal Print and IMO they're rubbish.

The first picture we received looked ok when I opened it but when Mrs WW opened it weeks later there was an obvious fault. Optimal Print agreed to reprint it but what arrived looked like draft rather than image quality printing and the colours were way off too. They agreed to do a third print and it arrived today and it's poor, it's better than the garbage 2nd print but nowhere near the quality of the 1st.

So, that's 3 prints received and none are suitable for wall mounting but Mrs WW has had enough and doesn't want to try again. I'm upset and feel I've wasted my money. I will add Optimal Print to my very short list of companies I will never ever give another penny to.

Here's their website. I left them a bad review.
