This is a stab in the dark but I was wondering if there is a way to find/trace a relative from ww2 with only just a photo? does anyone know if this is possible? I have a picture of my grandfather and information that he was american and served in glasgow in the navy in 1942, this is all. Hope someone can help.

Hi - There are WW2 service websites for specific regiments. Just google for the records :)

Hi Daniel, the likes of Ancestry.com should be of help, assuming you know his name and approximately when he was born.

If you pm me the details you have I'll do a quick search for you and see what I can come up with...

certainly would have thought if you don't know the regiment etc then there would be military people out there that would be able to identify it from cap badge etc in the picture assuming it is one of him in uniform, from that you could contact the regiment directly and they may be able to provide more information.

Hi danbo, I've shifted this out of the picture sharing and critique section.

Afraid I can't help with any suggestions but all the best with your search :)

Think you'll need to find his name first. Not into ancestry stuff myself but it should be straightforward from birth certs.

When you get that, go here:-

Post an item on there.
