Can it be done, I have been getting some grief from a couple of friends about my abusive e-mail that I am supposed to have sent - I didn't send any abusive e-mail, not my style at all.
I do not have the address it was sent from but by all accounts they seem to know enough about me and sent it to the right person, someone I have never spoken to yet they have found his e-mail and sent him one from me ?????

Getting messy as people are now falling out over a what seems to be a prank, need to sort it out !

I know this all sounds a bit wooly but without the address it was sent from or to I can't even get it Spammed - whats the criac, anyone know ?

Ask them to send you a copy of the mail (most importantly) including the full mail header, that will tell you where it originated.

I feel it will be be difficult to get, header that is, long, long story but whatever I can get I will PM to you both. This is causing all sorts of **** so I need to know where it has come from as it is allegedly from me, I have been through everything tonight and changed passwords etc but it is certainly someone close as seemingly they know alot about me !

you should be able to get the IP it was sent from in the header. Also the software used and the version number. so, if the check the header they should be able to see that its not from u

If you can't get the headers ask them to pay a visit to spamcop.net and paste the entire message inc. headers into it's online form. It will report where the email actually came from and they could compare that to one from you. Once they know the source they/you can file a complaint with the originating ISP who should be able to track the user and give them a warning about breaching the AUP.

Well lets see what today brings, I have asked the person that informed me of the e-mail to do her very best to get a copy of it, it is someone that I know for sure, just need to work out who knows who and knows what and try and tie it together.

Blue Cheese before bed last night though and my dreams were very 'Secret Service' so I guess I better start all over with the investigation - Secret Service 'assistants' were very pretty though :)

Or forward as an attachment...

Well it seems I won't be getting it but is has been accepted that I did not send it, next question, how easy is it for someone to hack Facebook / o2 network and see what has been going on ?

FB is easy enough if you can guess the users password. phone networks, very doubtful. You can recover deleted text messages off the sim though, much as you can do with deleted photos off an SD or CF card :)

Umm, someone somewhere knows stuff and I am damned if I know how - nay mind thanks for your help chaps, I will let you know of any developments !

Having re-read the first post I have to ask how you know the email even exists? You seem to be saying that someone has accused you of sending an email to someone else (who's email address you don't have) but aren't providing a shred of evidence to back up their claim

Simple answer, I don't but I do trust the person that gave me a bollocking about it !
