I have recently replaced my 9 year old laptop due to power issues, it needed yet another battery and the little plug was very lose and intermittant.

I have replaced it with an ASUS vivobook with an OLED screen, How ever the touchpad is driving me crazy, I have turned off all the fancy gesture controls but things goes crazy just by them shelves when I'm not touching the pad.

My SWIMBO newer Lenovo is even worse, she is forever saying "For Christ sake".

It does appear to be most annoying when web browsing.

Has anyone else had this and been able to tame it.

Just turn down the sensitivity / tracking speed in control panel
Already at slower speed, it's when not really using the trackpad when things start to go crazy, window closing down, tabs being dragged and other unwanted actions

I pretty much always use a separate mouse rather than the touchpad when I'm using a laptop, much better control.

Plug a mouse in and see if it changes behaviour. I've had exactly this, particularly on Dell latitudes. IIRC there were several factors, but reinstalling the track pad driver was the key factor. Check also the track pad is clean.

Maybe the driver?

I have managed to tame it somewhat by changing some registry settings

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse
I have increased MouseHoverTime to 60000 and reduced MouseHoverWidth and MousehoverHeight to 0

I have not seen yet any problems by changing these settings, I still get forum previews when hovering over entries, which I presume are controlled by the forum software and not Windows.
