Im a car mechanic by trade and a colleague and i have noticed that on the dash (instrument panel) that fuel gauges are either on the right of left and that the fuel filler cap is in keeping with the gauge eg: if the gauge is on the left the fuel filler is on the left etc , also if the fuel gauge is on the left but filler cap is on the right the gauge has a little arrow pointing to the right next to it and vise versa ! we've noticed that peugeots vws audi's fords seem to follow this pattern ! what car have you got and does it follow this pattern any info would be great as this would help my sanity :lol::lol::bonk:

Err, doesn't the second statement contradict the first? :thinking: :thinking:

Anyway, my Saab has both the gauge and the filler on the right.

fords have a small arrow next to the petrol pump logo to show which side the filler cap is, cap on the right, guage is on the right


however suzies honda jazz ive come to realise that the filler cap is always on the oposite side to where i think it is! the fuel guage is on the right but the filler cap is on the left ircc

That reminds me, I once made a casual observation several years ago based on cars I've owned, that the side the filler is on seems to depend on which side the steering wheel is on for the home market of the car, e.g. Saab, Sweden drives on the right (so LHD), the filler is on the right. Fiesta (at least the MkIV), home market RHD, filler on the left, and I'm pretty sure that both my Triumph Acclaim and Rover 214 (both badge-engineered Hondas, and Japan is RHD like us) filler was on the left.

Since you seem to have plenty of time on your hands at work Denz, perhaps you could research this and post back to let us know :thumbs: :lol:

i must admit it wasnt me who started it it was my work mate and its now doing my head in and also im good at my job so i can do jobs quickly and accuratley and have load of time to think of random things like this :)

oh yeah by the way i dont say that phrase most mechanics do that is " sssssssw thats going to cost you" either :lol:

Mrgrubby i think it depends on how slow the laminator is ,if its slow then you may have a chance it will be partially cooked but then you'll need to double laminate it to finish it off !

How do you account for Fiestas built in Spain then.:thinking:
 
:thinking: right, too much whisky but...mx5, guage and filler on left....renaults, I sit them every day and I cant bloody remember.. but I think, guage in the middle, filler on right,.... maybe :bonk:


Vauxhall VX220 - filler on right, NO guage ! :p
 
Forget what side the gauge is on & have a look to see the fuel pump
nozzle is on the same side as your filler cap.

And a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

But the bacon I get is way too thick to go through a laminator.

Thanks everyone for your input im going to leave the subject alone now and try my hardest to not let the fuel filler cap take over my working day :lol:
