Hey folks,

Total noob at this PP lark :-)

I was messing around with this picture taken at kew at the weekend. Nasty grey day as you can tell. I thought the sky looked a little on the boring side so decided to play with the contrast/ levels.

I am not sure what to think of the results...

  • Does it improve the picture?
  • Does it make it look fake?
  • What would you have done?

Hi. I'd be inclined to brighten up the foreground with levels. Its a bit underexposed. The eky and the glass roof looks fine to me.
 
From one noob to another, and I know some people hate the HDR look, but I've just ran it through a little fake HDR type program, and I think it's improved it. Only my opinion though. I might have overdone it a bit, so am completely prepared for a flaming. :D

Not bad, I'm going to try that program actually, hopefully the watermark isn't too intrusive so I can just crop it out :P
 
I've downloaded quite a few trials over the past few weeks, so I might be thinking of a different program, but I seem to remember the watermark taking up about two thirds of the image. :D

That looks amazing...

Going to have to try that as well :-)

I will have a play tonight to lighten the foreground a little to go with the sky :-)

In Elements I would probably go to Enhance > Adjust Lighting, then darken the highlights and lighten the shadows a bit. That would sort out the foreground and sky in one fell swoop. Then maybe increase the saturation a little. :)

Here you go, I think this looks fairly ok...

I still have so much so much to learn of the basics..

This would look really nice if the effect on the grass in the foreground were backed off a little. That would draw attention to the structure, and not the grass which, to me, is a little overpowering at the moment.

it just takes up a wee bit at the bottom which can easily be removed by adding padding and crop :nuts::clap:
