As a user of both Affinity Photo and Topaz Studio it interests me, but I don't really understand what it means.

You are probably in a better position than I am to work that out, if you use both.

I assumed that given the mixed reports on how well Topaz worked with AP, this meant that rather than relying on their Photoshop compatibility allowing it to work with AP, they had actively ensured compatibility. As far as I am aware that makes Topaz Studio and Neat Image the only two plugins that officially support AP, even though others work.

There is a set of instructions for installing and using Topaz Studio within Affinity on the Topaz Studio Help Center.

I wonder if I misunderstood your initial question.

As Topaz studio was already working as a host editor with Affinity Photo(before that announcement), I assumed you were asking what was different now that Topaz had said they were "officially" supporting Affinity Photo.

Were you actually asking about what they meant by it being a "host editor"?

If so I apologise for my unhelpful answer. I don't actually use the combination other than checking it worked, which was why I suggested, as you said you used both programs, that you would be in better position to work out what what was different, now that Topaz provided "official support".

Strange, you started the thread with the comment "If it's of interest to anyone"
I don't remember asking any questions.
As a long time user of Topaz, but having only recently started using Affinity, I was puzzled by the statement that Topaz Studio was a "host editor" for Affinity.
I would have described Affinity as the "host" and Topaz Studio provided additional adjustments, at least that's how I use it, and before "Studio" the various Topaz programs were accessed as "plug-ins" from a host program, usually either Lightroom or Photoshop.
Since adopting Affinity I have continued to access the Topaz programs in the same way, i.e. by the "Filters" menu, or via "Edit in" in Lightroom.
Because I was havng no problems accessing Topaz I was a little puzzked by the announcement from Topaz that Studio now provided "host editor support for Serif Affinity Photo"
In fact, there appears to be no difference and Topaz is still accessed from the "Filter" menu in Affinty.
Reading the installation /accessibility instructions on the Topaz site, it appears they have added yet another way of accessing Studio from Affinity, but I still wouldn't regard Topaz as a "host" for Affinity, more the other way round.

:-) OK, seems we (or maybe its just me) are having some minor communication problems. I took you "not understanding what it means" as implying a question asking me if "I knew what it meant"

I read "host editor support" to mean supporting Affinity Photo as a host editor.

But, as far as I was aware, Topaz Studio already worked with Affinity Photo, which was what prompted the "if anyone is interested" beginning, because a) I wasn't sure how many people were using Topaz and AP, and b) because it seemed to already work.

But, I assumed that for people who used the two programs, unlike me, there may still have been niggly problems that this "official" support release now fixed.

So when you said you didn't understand what it meant, and that you used the two programs, I thought you would be in a better position than me to understand what had possibly been fixed by this official release.

But when you posted the link of how to get Topaz Studio working with AP, I then thought that maybe you hadn't realised that Topaz Studio could be run from AP, and this was what you hadn't understood.

But I now see that we had interpreted "host editor support" support differently, and have been talking at cross purposes. :-(

Yes, I think that seems to have been the case.
