Topaz and CS2?

I have a very old copy of Photoshop, CS2. It's moved with me from PC to PC. Although I purchsed it from a shop and have the code from the box/cd, I have never been able to register it properly, but rather than go through the hassle of working out why, I always just select the "register later" option. It works just fine, and even does (did, no more updates any more) the auto-updating fine, so who knows what registering gets you.

I want to add some noise reduction software, specifically Topaz, which I understand is a plug-in for Photoshop.

So 2 questions that I am hoping people will know the answer to.

1) Will Topaz work with such an old piece of software?
2) Will the unregistered state of CS2 prevent the installation/function of Topaz?

PS, CS2 does everything I want, and way way more. I see no advantage to upgrading to whatever the latest iteration is.

Thanks in advance
Jonathan

with regards to "2"...
You need to check out the "free CS2" thread.... it's not free, but it is exactly designed for people like you, who have bought it on license but need an activation key. :)
Go to their site, get a new 'free' key and problem '2' goes away :)

HI, I've just done it, and it didn't require a code at all. For years now I've always clicked register later, and today with my email it just went straight through. They must have made the software free as it is so old. Cost me a packet, but I've had years of use and see no need to upgrade.
But it looks like Topaz is CS3 and above.....:-(
thanks
Jonathan

I have some of the Topaz filters and they appear to work fine with CS2 (I haven't done a thorough test). I'm not at the computer at the moment so I can't confirm it, but I think I just copied the .8bf file from the Topaz folder into the CS2 plug-ins folder.
Download the trial from Topaz and give a go.

I have been using CS2 for many years and have just purchased the image bundle from Topaz Labs. The procedure that Topaz Labs suggest for CS6 did not work and I tried to copy the .8bf file into the CS2 plug- in folder but it didn't work either.
I finally got it working as a plug in in CS2 by the following procedure:

Open Photoshop CS2

Go to Edit/Preferences/Plug-ins & Scratch Disks.

Tick the box for Additional Plug-Ins Folder, then click Choose.

Navigate to the Topaz Labs plug-ins, eg.
C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz DeNoise AI\PS_Plugins_x64

Click OK in the Browse for Folder dialogue.

Click OK in the Preferences window.

Your plug-ins should now appear in CS2 under the Filter menu as Topaz Labs.

Also just remember that the Topaz modules also work stand alone.
