I bought Topaz DeNoise A1 18 months ago (version 3.3. 4) for £60 and have recently had a couple of messages when I open it about updating and stating that my current licence doesn't cover a free update and asking me to 'click here' to update. I thought it was a scam but not so. I'd have to pay $49 (£40 at today's rate of $1.20) then I can have free updates for 12 months and after that I'd have to pay again. I was unaware of this. On my iMac I get an alert re updates for the iMac and Adobe.

Here's what Topaz says which is fair enough but it's 2/3 the cost of the original.

This is how it works for all Topaz products now. You can choose not to update it. It will continue to work, but you just won’t get the latest bells and whistles until you do.
I haven’t updated mine yet.

Personally, I like the Topaz way of doing things rather than the Adobe/Microsoft model. There is no compulsion to adapt the latest features if you don't feel that they offer you anything over what you already have and when you do finally decide an upgrade is worthwhile it is just the same, single upgrade payment.

The reminders that an update is available can be a bit of a nuisance though :)

I have the DeNoise not sharpen. I should have mentioned that. I'll do some Googling to see if the updates make any real difference. There have been a few comments on here at how good it was at the time I bought it.
