Howdy,

Looking to get a bit of feedback on what you count in your top 10 of British Wildlife Moments .. perhaps it's something you have witnessed either first hand or through TV, or perhaps it's something that's on your wish list. Also doesn't have to be massive and iconic for the masses, perhaps something just person for you. I have a few myself and these, along with some of the top ones from the masses, hope to set myself a target of seeing (and of course photographing) 10 of the Top Wildlife Events in the UK in 2015 ....

For me a few would be;

  • Red Deer Rut
  • Massive Starling Murmuration
  • High Tide Wader Roosts
  • Mad as a March Hare (Boxing of course)
  • Courtship and chicks of Great Crested Grebes

And you ?

Best for me so far has been...

  1. Kingfishers
  2. Great Crested Grebes courting (inc weed transfer)
  3. Wild Red Squirrel
  4. Puffins
Best yet to do...

  1. Red Deer rut
  2. Osprey fishing
  3. Fish Eagle fishing
  4. Grouse Lek
  5. Sure there's more :D
 
I'm lucky living where I do as most of the wildlife moments I like are around me.

Red Deer Rutting
Sea Eagles / Golden eagles
Osprey
Reg Squirrels
Black Grouse Lekking
Pine Martens

Some I'd still like to experience better than I have to date.

Capercaillie
Puffins
Scottish Wildcat (I'm not holding my breath)
Whales / Dolphins
Beavers - only catch the odd glimpse.

One of my wildlife obsessions is water voles. I can watch them all day and it's amazing the crowds we can draw when you point out the water voles to the passing public that they haven't seen in years when they stop and ask you what you at up to.

Some of the best -

Arctic Skua pursuing a tern, for a bird of that size their manoeuvrability is amazing.
Minke Whale
100+ Waxwings a couple of years ago
Being lucky enough to see Barnacle Geese from Greenland arrive on Islay and a little while later seeing some of the first Barnacle Geese from Svalbard arrive on the Solway
White tailed eagle, and
Pine Martens

Best 10 for me has been...

Kingfishers, fishing and feeding young in nest.
Dippers, fishing in the Brook and photographing them together!
Black Winged Stilts, had these large waders birds within meters in front of me!
Spoonbills, had a group of 50 of them flying directly at me!
Red Squirrels, feeding them by hand and photographing them on Brownsea Island
Barn Owl, Photographing Barn Owl on a open land near my house.
Golden Plover, watching thousands of Golden Plover flock in the sunlight whist a peregrine chased them.
Night Herons, watching Night Herons fishing in the Canaries.
Fallow Deer, watching these rut and photograph them in the local woodlands.
Banbury Falcon, watching these Birds of Prey fighting in front of me!
 
Best for me was a Grass snake catching and eating a frog.
