A bit of help please, as the title says I have too much unused gear.

I have the following

Canon 5Dmk2

Canon 7D Mk1

Canon 24mm TS-E Mk2

Sigma 15mm Fisheye

Canon 60mm Macro

Canon 17-40 L

Canon 24-105 L

Canon 100-400L Mk1

Canon G12

Canon 580SX Flash

I find that I am increasingly using the 15mm FE and the 24mm TS-E on the 5Dmk2 and the G12 to the exclusion of everything else.

Basically it's become a PTA carting all the rest of the gear around , but I prefer using the DSLR rather than the G12 other than for portabilty

My thoughts are to keep the 5D, the FE and the TS-E , sell the rest and buy something which is more portable and while not necessarily up to 'L' standard will give reasonable results and is easier to carry around.

My thoughts at the moment are buy a Superzoom ,here I am tending towards Tamron rather than Canon for weight reasons and keep both bodies.

I am neutral as to get one for FF or crop but as the 7D is worth so little and it does have some advantages over the 5D, I am thinking of the Tamron 18-270PZD or the newer 16-300 PZD on the 7D as an all round general use camera

The other alternative is to sell everything other than the 5D, 15mm and TS-E and buy a mirrorless kit.

Any thoughts, pointers or ideas will be most appreciated

Not sure if it is worth anything, but I went from a FF Canon and bag full of lenses to M4/3rd's.
Now I've got a FF Nikon and just bought back my old rucksack as I have a few big'n'heavy lenses to lug around again.....

No idea what sort of pictures you take, but the 15mm FE and 24mm TS-E imply that it ain't sport and people, so maybe the (limited) failings of mirrorless won't affect you too much..

Mirrorless is wonderful in so many ways, but for me it just wasn't right for my sort of pictures (I had the Olympus EM1, 12-40, 40-150 etc)

If any of my kit is unused, it loses its spot in the bag. If it's unmissed, chances are that it'll get traded in against something that will get used.

Here's my perspective - I have a similar amount of lenses as that listed, and I rarely take out more than two lenses with me anywhere. I have certain lenses that I use more often and some I use once or twice a year at most, but as I have plenty of room and don't need the cash I could raise by selling the stuff, I just keep it.

Despite this, I've more interest in photography than in equipment (I've had my SLR nearly 7 years), so I regard cameras and lenses as just tools for the job, and I select the appropriate lens or camera that will best serve me on the day. It's a bit like my toolbox - I've got a bradawl and ballpein hammer that I've not needed for a while but haven't got rid of them as I know I will use them at some point and I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

Just out of interest and asking as a similarly affected photographer/fly fisherman how many fly rods, lines, reels and flies do you have? On second thoughts forget the flies, they just breed in the fly boxes I think.

As to photo gear, I use a Hardys fishing bag with a liner (similar to a Billingham) and just pack a couple of lenses to suit the occasion, FF body and compact usually.

One fly rod( 9ft Greys 5 pc CF) , one Hardy marquis reel ( two drums with lines 1*WF 6 float ,1*WF 6 sink) god alone knows how many flies but then now I tend only to fish one river, the days of reservoir rods and shooting heads are long gone.So what I have is easily portable and does what I need and that's the situation I am trying to get to with camera gear

I suppose it all depends on what photography you are interested in. I personally do mostly wildlife but also do a bit of street, marco, landscape and general photography and I base my equipment around that. I have Canon7D2 that I use for photographing wildlife particulary birds and a Sigma 150-600mm (C) that remains attached. They remain in my Tamrac 9 which is my wildlife bag. I rarely if ever take any other lenses, it detracts from my propose.
I also have a Canon 5D3 which I use with my Canon 100mm Macro IS, Canon 50mm f1.4 and Canon 24-70 f4. I would like other lenses but these cover my needs and they go into another Tamrac with withever filters, extentions and Raynox etc I need. But once again I go equiped for what I intend to shoot and never burden myself with loads of lenses. I had other lenses such as Canon 100-400mm but sold them as I stopped getting use out of them.
By the time I add all the accessories such as filters, extentions, monopod, bino's, cleaning gear, flash etc etc depending on what I'm shooting I find I am starting to weigh myself down.
I also never carry two cameras other than if I was going on a exped etc. I want to enjoy the day and not go tabbing over the countryside.
