Well it's too hot for me and I'm missing my photowalks!
As an 'oldie' with health issues I need to be sensible so have been indoors in front of the fan and with a cold squash (or beer) to hand.
It looks like it's going to be the new normal so I'm going to have to adjust!
I try to keep hydrated, wear loose clothes and a wide-brimmed hat but I'm more of a walker than a stay-in-one-place photographer, (hunting/fishing?), and that adds to heat stress.

What are your tips for keeping your cool in this hot weather?

Im photograhing an event tomorrow between 11am and 4pm and its an open-air event. The forecast for the area tomorrow is for temperatures around 30 degrees, so im not particularly looking forward to it. Any tips greatly appreciated here also

The only tip I can think off is to go early and call it quits at 11am when the temperature starts to go up dramatically. Another tip more in humour is to find a supermarket with chillers and hang around to cool down! :exit:

Go out early, until the day warms, stay out of midday heat, then go out again in the evening. If you want to walk in the middle of the day, find some shady woodland and take up landscapes.

I love the heat (lived in Africa for a while), so unless it goes above about 35 it doesn't bother me.

My dog on the other hand hates it (don't they all), and he really wasn't happy last year, so this year I treated him to a portable AC unit from Amazon (£150.00). It's only 10,000 BTU, so not really good enough for cooling my rather large lounge, but it does keep one corner of it down to about 20 degrees for him. A bonus is if I get hot, I can join him in his cold area. :D

The downside is it increases my electricity usage three-fold when it's running.

That was the idea for this morning. It seemed like a good idea last night but not so attractive early this morning!

I'm sat right now debating if I should pop into town for a couple hours - I'm not an oldie and for me the heat is no fun.. I think I'll pass... it sucks because I have itchy feet.

My only suggestion is to eat plenty of ice cream :D

I've just done a short walk around the village because I'm WFH today and it was my lunchbreak. Boy, does it feel hot out there. I'm incredibly grateful for my nice cool house.

Being in the city means I have to use car/bus, often using the park & ride, and both can be very hot and stuffy.
When I get back to my car and the radio comes on, the LCD display is blank - it's melted!

Drink hot tea, preferably not with milk - say green or peppermint tea. The hot drink gets your veins closer to the surface of your skin thus increasing body heat loss. Sounds counter-intuitive but it's why tea is drunk in hot climates.

Early morning in the Corn Street area for the Saturday Market should keep you out of the sun ;)

Otherwise, loose clothing, keeping the head covered (esp in my case!) and a bit of shade in between. I know it's warm, but even a bit of a breeze can help slightly.

I'm planning to photograph the Bristol Pride tomorrow. I know I'm not in direct sunlight, but it can't be much hotter/uncomfortable than work is right now!

We have a couple of Bend Hydro Flasks and a 32oz bottle with half a dozen ice cubes in it when we set out still has ice in it after 5-6 hours on the beach. I use my g*lf umbrella more in Summer than I do in Winter so I have some shade. I have a small USB charged fan as well. I stick my head under the hose stands too. If I remember, I stick my Zerofit cool base layer on under the mesh jacket on hot rides on the bike - works well.

Apparently it wicks the sweat away and speeds the evaporation, hence improves the cooling. That's the theory, anyway! Seems to work, however it achieves it. Feels very like the top I wear when swimming; ostensibly a "rash vest" to stop jellyfish stings but I use it to reduce my sunscreen consumption when snorkelling.

Did that last year. The parade itself was a bit boring but the big meet up in castle park and people dispersing at the end gave some interesting pictures There were a huge amount of people in dog S&M outfits- they are going to be suffering in the heat.

Not cooling, but what about doing indoor macro photography for a bit?

Soap bubbles, smoke from incense, sliced veg, fruit etc

Not my scene but thanks for the suggestion. :)
Eat curry...hot, spicy curry.

Same principle as hot tea above.
Love hot curry but not in the morning, I’m more of a porridge or fruit sort of person. :)

The heat doesn't bother me too much as I'm basically a cold morsel, however I'm usually up and about at around 04.00 summer & winter, and this time of year if I'm going to do a bit of street snapping I'm out by 06.00 the latest. I usually stop some place for a bit of breakfast at about 08.00 and then carry on for an hour or two before heading back. My style is more of the fishing technique as I don't walk too quickly. That's it, works for me.

Hat's off to you George.

Keep your hat on mate ! You know what happens in the heat if you don't. :)

I'll be hitting the sack in a little while as I want to try and catch the fishing boats coming back on the early tide tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to you being back on the street scene again soon.

Yes, I'm not getting my hopes up too much. But if I can get a few colourful moments :) I was going to shoot on film too.

We were in northern Spain last week - 40 plus degrees

This week SW France - 30 plus degrees

OK for my grandson in the pool but for me it's just too much

Same reason that ice cream doesn't work. Hot drinks warm your core, and if that happens, your heat loss mechanisms work harder. If you take on board lots of cold stuff, your body core is cooled, and heat loss mechanisms work less hard, so you warm up.

Me too for getting up early , the Dragonflies and butterflies are also less active before it really warms up so easier to photograph
Last couple of times though I stayed out too long and was overheated by the time i got back to the car , definitely have to be careful

Yep, if not careful, by the time you realise you've had enough sun you still have the journey back home.

I've been out since 04.45 and at the Harbour by 05.00, lovely morning but sadly no fishing boats. Apparently they've had a bad night for fishing and are staying out until the next tide. Just had my breakfast and after my coffee I'll do a bit of street snapping and then back before it gets too hot, unless SWMBO catches up with me and drags me around some shops.

I haven't got any tips for keeping cool, but I can highly recommend P20 sun cream: it's factor 50 and one application lasts all day. I'm really pale (and bald!) so I burn in literally minutes without it.

This is a major failure on my part - I hate sun cream.:runaway:

I aborted my weekly visit to the local boot sale today , Last night 7pm I went into my front garden
to rake up and sweep up the dried out weed over growth that I strimmer'd the night before , Job took 1 hour , I came in drenched in sweat , T shirt soaking , pants the same .
I like warm but not silly warm. I have a small electric fan 2 speed with oscillation feature if needed , One night last week I had it running on a side
cupboard next to my bed , Me with only pants on ( Not a pretty sight ) trying to cool down , It sort of worked.

My tip is drink plenty of water or a rehydrate solution , and if all else fails a banana and salted crisps will help replace the salts your flushing out a fair bit.
One thing I've bought but not tried yet is a car windscreen protecter/sunshade thats like a brolly, I bought it on recomendation as a reflector (not tried it as that either) but it would certainly provide some shade at a push, as would a golf brolly.

Count yourself lucky I have got 20+ Mosquito/insect bites, has have my daughter
driving me mad
