Hello all,

Can anyone tell me if I lift the receiver and and play dial tone down the microphone will it dial the required number ? Just thinking of a quick fix until I can find and fit a tone dial unit.

Yes it will. :)

I wrote several articles for a computer magazine on 'phreaking' and 'hacking' back in the late 80s and early 90s - not as easily done in the UK as in the States, but it could be done. o_O

I recall having a BT tone dialler device back in the 80's for use with their automated account & voicemail (?) messages system. In the end I found it easier to press the phone buttons........in very rapid succession.

PS packrat that I am I probably still have it somewhere???

Thanks everyone, I've brought a fairly old house (1885) out in the countryside, I wish to equip it with some olde worldly stuff ( we already have a lot of it) Plus the mobile network
( every network) is really patchy outside and none existent indoors so I need a landline. I remember watching some documentary's on phone phreaking ( Im guessing I used the wrong terminology but calling it freaking) which seemed interesting , Yet another project I have found to do, I'm going to busy.
