I connected my Tomtom device to my PC, the Tomtom Home application started and downloaded and installed an update. The upshot is that now when I connect the device to the PC my desktop locks up, totally unresponsive.
I booted into safe mode, deleted the contents of the device and installed a back up, the result is the same, Win7 64bit desktop lock up.

I'm doing my nut, someone please save me! Ideas gratefully received.

Remove Tom Tom Home, re-try connecting and if ok reinstall Home?

Are you using a different USB port than the initial install?
I don't think so, but I've swapped ports and it still locks up. Doesn't lock up my wife's PC though!

I've tried that but I'm not convinced that every component is removed even though I've checked the registry.
I've installed Revo uninstaller and I've noticed some other tomtom components, we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the replies:thumbs:

Only reason I mention it, my iPad gets its arse in a knot if you use another port and windows/iTunes locks until its unplugged and springs back to life.

1. Completely exit TomTom HOME. To do this, right-click the TomTom HOME icon in the taskbar and click Exit.

2. Click on the Windows Start icon go to All Programs > TomTom > Uninstall TomTom HOME.

The TomTom uninstaller begins. Click Next.

Click Uninstall.

TomTom HOME uninstalls.

Click Finish once the uninstall has completed.

Delete the TomTom folder in the following locations on your computer:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\
AppData is a hidden folder by default. You need to switch on Show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer on your computer in order to access this directory.

You can delete the TomTom folder in Documents, but please be aware that this deletes all downloaded content and backups. If you’d like to save this information, you can rename the TomTom folder in Documents (example: 'TomTomOld').
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\

Still knackered!
I know I must accept this, draw a line under it and move on:D but technically it's bugging me.
Why would a formatted drive ( because that's essentially what a formatted GPS device is) cause a PC desktop to lock up but not in safe mode?

Of course I've now got to replace it but probably will bite my nose off to spite my face and avoid a Tomtom!

In safe mode it will not be loading drivers so I guess there is something on your system that recognises what it is and loads a driver that is incompatible.

Try control panel >autoplay. is there an action listed for tomtom?

Good point, the driver that I thought would be likely to cause a desktop lock up was the Nvidia driver so I installed the latest version, still no joy.

BUT, I've just connected the device to a USB port on the m/board back panel rather than one on a m/board header.
A result of sorts! I can now see the contents of the Tomtom drive, now there shouldn't be any as its been formatted I hear you say:) but there were about 8 files there.
I've deleted these and I'm now copying over the Tomtom backup created by Home.
I'll let you know the result.
