Hi,

Hope you are all well

Right, tomorrow I want to get out there and starting snapping away with my new camera. There is only one slight problem, I cant think of anywhere to go, somewhere a bit different

I live in a small town called Devizes in Wiltshire which is about 20 miles away from Swindon and 25 miles away from Salisbury. I have been to all the normal places many times. I was born and lived in Salisbury for 21 years so dont wanna go back there!

Places I have been - New Forest, Salisbury Cathedral, Avebury, Cotswold wildlife park, longleat, monkey world, marwell zoo errr.... and many other places. Does anyone or can anyone recommend somewhere a little different.

I like water, animals (can you tell? ;) ) interesting buildings, landscapes etc..

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks
Nik :p

Savernake Forest, Marlborough... its FABULOUS and really ancient and so so beautiful, you wont regret it!

Just abit too late for me. I have been working in Wiltshire alot lately and finally got round to taking my camera over this week, so hadn't got a clue on where to go with it. So as I was staying beside Longleat I just took some shots around estate and surrounding area, and of course I done the "stones", but they were bloody closed and I had to photograph them over the fence.

I have to say Wiltshire is one of the most beutiful parts of England. So I would be very interested in the suggestions from this thread.

Hi Feeb - A salisbury person hey?! god they get everywhere nowadays

I have been to Savernake Forest I think....might have a quick look on the net. I think last time all I can remember seeing is trees and although trees can be interesting....they get a bit samey after 30 mins  - I am thinking of the right place???

Wiltshire is very beautiful but I think sometimes living in a place for so long you dont see the beauty of it anymore and I think that is my problem. However all the places I have listed in my first post you should visit and I have just come across a place called Lydiard House - that looks worth a visit and also I would recommend Stourhead... a little pricey to get in (£11.80 per adult) but well worth it IMO.

Have you been to Marwell Zoological park nr Winchester?

That is very true so I can let you off  but only this once though :bat:

I assume you have done the locks.

"The Locks" - could you maybe give a bit more detail...Wiltshire is a big place and there are many locks around these parts! :)

Caen Hill with all 16 of it's locks.

The village and Abbey at Lacock may be familiar, as many films (including Harry Potter) have used them for locations. This picture-perfect village, owned by the National Trust is where Henry Fox Talbot pioneered photography, will have you reaching for your cameras.

Ooooooh I see - nope not done that - which is a little odd :cuckoo: good suggestion, thank you! :D

Yeah I was just looking at that actually....sounds very interesting indeed and not too far away either. These are good ideas, thank you :D

Was going to suggest the hill with all the locks. Would be nice if it was sunny. There is some racing at Castle Combe on Sunday. Castle Combe village very nice as well.

I only have tomorrow free otherwise would of been interested in going to castle combe. I think I might either venture to Lacock Abbey, Lydiard House or Stourhead....mmmm which one to pick!!!

I think I went there when I was 22 and now I am 23  Maybe its not my kind of thing... but I do agree it is beautiful!

I think you will find that you live very close to Dazzajl.
Yup, just over the next hill.

And i'm sure he may be able help.
Ahhhhh, yes...... well...... lets see..........:thinking:

Odd that we should have this thread twice today eh. That's one of the big beauties of Wiltshire, that no-one really knows it's here. Lacock is a good idea and one of my continuing embarassments, that I've not been to the Fox Talbot museum yet. It's said to be quite good and the village and abbey certainly have some good stuff to shoot.

As I was saying in the other thread, it's a great place to be far more than a great place to do. For me the pleasure is usually heading off across the hills until I can't hear the cars anymore.

There's a Steam Rally at Kemble Airfield (just north of malmesbury)on the 1st, 2nd 3rd August, if you're in to that sort of thing.

I drove past it yesterday.... wish i'd had my camera, McLaren F1 were there testing their cars :bang:

Hey, Sorry I didnt realise there was another thread re Wiltshire. Would of posted on that instead!

I think we might try Lacock, I normally take my otherhalf as a carrying horse so got to keep him happy too :naughty:

Calne...driven through it many times and also been to ABD there (solicitors) but other then that never stopped really. Maybe I should, anything worth stopping for??

Tis okay  No offense taken - everybody has things they like to photograph and not everyone likes the same stuff - each to their own and all that :D

I would of thought that on a summers evening when the sun is shinning through the trees it would be lovely there, maybe have to venture that way when summer decides to return! :)

Nope, not really. The council have outdone themselves this year with a shear volume of flowerbeds, baskets and random flowered mounds, so the place is looking pretty good. It doesn't pay to look beyond though, it's a pretty thin veneer. :D
