Toledo Blade investigation reveals 79 altered Detrich photos

An examination by the Toledo Blade of photographs submitted by former staffer Allan Detrich concluded that 79 were digitally altered since the beginning of 2007. A Blade article entitled A basic rule: Newspaper photos must tell the truth, by the paper's Executive Editor Ron Royhab, describes the results of the Blade's internal investigation into the photographer's work, in the wake of Detrich's manipulation of a news photo in late March 2007 and his subsequent resignation.

It makes you wonder if he was the one that ran over the animals in the roadkill series :lol:

What a waste of a career indeed. He claims "I'm good at capturing the moment, I just hate distracting backgrounds". A good thought, and I'm sure many will agree with him, but does it excuse his actions? I don't think so.

I admit when the story first came to light, I didn't think he'd done anything wrong. Apart from the fact that it seems he has.....a further 78 times...lol I am now being swayed towards the opinion that a press photographer must capture what is there, and not add or remove elements that werent there originally.

But does that include, say general photo processing? Say adjusting levels, upping some contrast etc. I don't know. Surely there must be a line drawn somewhere.
