I have a Tokina RMC 28-85/1:4 from my Olympus OM1 and I am eagerly awaiting receipt of a 50d. I've bought an EF-S 18-55mm IS from a forum member just to get started but what I am wondering is - is it worth getting an OM - ES adapter to use this lens on the 50D or just wait and save up for the real thing?

I doubt this would be up to scratch. Zoom lenses from the 80's were known to be a little weak. What other OM glass have you got? There were some excellent primes in that range that are definitely worth converting.

Just the 50mm 1:1.8 is OM
I've got a 75 - 200mm 1:45 - 5.3 MC Macro but that's a Miranda
and a 2X-21 tele converter.

50mm f/1.8 is a good lens, but it alone doesn't justify the adapter in my opinion.

Autofocus is really important. I had a play with my old 135mm f/2.8 on T90 in Go Ape! and that was well hard to focus and track people. So I would think 50mm f/1.8 on a non-optimised small viewfinder would be near impossible. There is always live view but that wouldn't get you action shots.

There are some Canon bargain primes that include 85mm f/1.8 or 200mm f/2, 135mm f/2.8 and sometimes you find 200mm f/2.8L mk1 at good price

Thanks, I'll stick with the 18-55 then for the time being and take it from there
