Hey,

Almost settled on a UWA lens - but there seems to be two different versions, one being widely available with lots on 'bay - the other is seemingly rarer.

This is the rare one:

This is the other:

Is there a difference between the two? If so - which is better? I'm looking into getting the second one as its not too expensive and there's a lot to choose from across the net.

Cheers,
Jack

the second one has a motor in i think aimed at working on nikons...i could be wrong though and sure someone will correct me

From the Tokina site:

Tokina said:
The Nikon mount AT-X 124 PRO DX II has a built-in AF motor drive. The motor inside the lens was loaded onto the Nikon mount specification anew. The AF operates smoothly and quietly due to a DC motor that uses a new AF control gear assembly. With the built-in motor, the lens can be used in AF mode with the Nikon D60 and D40 and other silent wave bodies.
The Canon version of the lens already has a built-in AF motor and will benefit from the improved multi-coating.
The optical system of original AT-X 124 PRO DX won awards for its sharpness world-wide. This design was maintained in the AT-X 124 PRO DX II and improved with the introduction of new multi-coating_ system. The new multi-coating helps reduce reflections that can cause flare and ghosting even more than in the AT-X 124 PRO DX.
The AT-X 124 PRO DX II features the one-touch focus clutch mechanism. _ To use the one-touch focus clutch mechanism, move the focus ring forward, towards the front of the lens, for AF or back for MF. This allows for a fast and easy manual over-ride in difficult lighting situations.
Digital single-lens reflex DX lens_ dedicated to digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors.

The second one just came outta the packaging today for me. The manual focus mechanism is not that easy to use but I've only played with it for 10 minutes or so. And boy the 12mm is rather wide.

Great, I thought I'd read somewhere that the second one was inferior - well then I've made up my mind on what to get!

Thanks guys,
Jack

i thought the manual changer was easier than a switch

Maybe it is? Marketing spiel can be a terrible thing.

All I can suggest is do some Googling for articles comparing the two.
