Wanted some advice on something that happens when I use this lens. This is my only non Nikon lens so never had this before and I don't know if it's just because the camera reacts to the lens. I'm fairly new to photography but I believe this is called lock up? When using the Tokina from time to time I will go to take a photo and it's like the camera gives a loud clunk and everything goes black. I switch the camera off and on and it's back to normal for several shots then it happens again. I've never had this happen when using my Nikon 35mm or 18-200mm. Is it just a fact of of third party lenses?

Many thanks,
Lyn

Hi Lyn
I only have 3Rd party sigma lenses, including the sigma 105 macro. I also have a D7000, but have never experienced this.

I have a D7000, I have the Tamron 90mm f2.8 and if causes no issues...I also have a couple of Sigmas and again they work just fine.
Is this a brand new lens? if so I would return it.

Testing my memory here, I had the same combo at one time. Never had this issue though. If you are using the camera to control aperture make sure the lens is at it's smallest aperture on the ring (f32 iirc) I think there may be an aperture lock there ... Also make sure the clutch is fully forward or backward and not halfway. It is a lovely lens and renders beautifully so worth checking the basics. Also worth checking the contacts are clean, use a pencil eraser or a small amount of IPA on it (no, not beer, Isopropyl Alcohol ;))

Mine died a death, but that was because it was knocked onto a concrete floor from around 5 feet up :( even then it still worked fine in manual mode.
