Today I attended my first English funeral, not what I am used to, being Irish....but on a good point it was a sincere experience for a guy who made me extremely welcome to my new life in Kent...the deceased was originally from London and I was amazed to learn that he was associated with a certain London family who were famous for being twins...the guy was a great guy who, from the stores I heard today, was a true gentleman.....but that's not the whole story....I overheard some men asking about getting a taxi from the crematorium to the local pub...I offered to give them a lift....and it was the most amazing experience in my life....these guys also were associated with the London gangland scene from decades ago.....and I had a wonderful afternoon listening to stories from that era....i then spoke to his wife , who filled in the gaps, it seemed they had a world wide roller coaster of a life. I don't Condon violence or criminality but we can't turn back time, so I just thought I would share an experience that I thought I would never be involved in....

Did you give them a lift to the bank, then the post office, then another bank? ;)

There was an ex Krays gang member living near me a few years back, despite being too old to cause much trouble as such the police still kept an
eye on him.
Really nice friendly Eastend type, do anything to help those that treated him ok, not many knew of his past only those he liked and trusted,
but cross him and he still had contacts ;)
I spent many interesting hours chatting to him, yes he had killed and served time for it, the thing he explained to me was ordinary man on the street was not the target, those that crossed the Krays
had better have a good place to run though.
He had survived to retire to the country
