I sat in my hotel room, in Spain, keeping an eye on Flightradar to see if the plane that I was due to fly on, the following day, had left its previous destination. It hadn't! I kept checking, until late in the evening, then fell asleep. I woke up again later and checked. It was flying to the UK. The following day, the transfer picked me up at the alloted time and delivered me to the airport. The plane was on the tarmac, waiting. Said plane brought me back to the UK on time! After reading lots of "delayed" and "cancelled" reports in the press on previous weeks, I wanted to keep an eye on things. In a way, I wish that I hadn't!

I keep an eye on Flight Radar while we're wasting time nearer the return airport than where we stay. It's a 3 3/4 hour trip out (give or take a tailwind!) so we get a reasonable idea as to if/how much delay is likely. I also keep an eye on the incoming plane while we're waiting at the UK airport - that's a much shorter flight so we're at the airport before it leaves.

I like to check if the aircraft for the morning flight out is coming in that morning or has been on site all night, reduces risk of delay, and when returning home if there’s a delay so the taxi to the airport is in just enough time.
