Just got my lencarta set up and have a few questions.

1. Flash head and umbrella, how close should the umbrella be to the flash, and do you need the reflector head on do you leave it without any attachments. This is to light the back ground.

2. To light the background, White, what is the best angle and height, high pointing down, low pointing up etc?

I have a few more but that will do for now lol

Tried a google but can't find much, using phone at work so a bit limited.

Any help welcome

Experiment - that way you will learn what different positions, modifiers and power will do.

Robbo - I'm in the same boat as just bought the Elemental twin head set-up. As Lawrie says, so far I've just played around and moved the lights closer and further from both the BG and subject to see what happens. I've also played around with the power settings for each head. I'm amazed at how just a small change of angle/power/distance can massively change the outcome of the shot!

Enjoy your play.

I think the Lencarta reflector is similar to the the Elemental one which I have and I leave the reflector on when using an umbrella. Well, I do now after realising the umbrella goes through the little slot in the reflector! :bonk:

Lighting the background - there are many different ways of doing it well and even more ways of doing it badly.
So I produced a video showing a simple method that doesn't require much in the way of equipment
Part 1Part 2

Umbrella distance - to get the largest/softest light you need to fill the umbrella but without spilling any light, so just move the umbrella far enough away to fill it.

Thanks for the reply and link.

Think I confused myself as I only had one reflector head but two umbrellas, this was due to me changing for an extra umbrella over the soft box, so didnt realise the kit only came with one etc......

So another is on order
