Hi folks

Possibly a daft question but do you have any tips on shooting miniatures to make them look bigger?

Google only seems to come up with tilt shift techniques for making real things look miniature:bonk:

Thanks folks

Kit available

Get down to eye level, get as close as possible, possibly even look up slightly at them. Don't look down, that'll just make them appear smaller.

I'd go with the tripod and either the 50 1.8 or the 18-55 depending on which one has the closest focusing distance at 50mm. Then you may find you need to crop down slightly.

You'll also need light, miniatures tend to cast undesirable shadows. I also found removing any bases on the models through photoshop made them fill the screen better and just generally look neater.

Also, please don't say you've recently applied for a job involving this stuff in Nottingham...

Thanks Faddius. I'll give it a go.Offhand i think the 18-55 focus is closer. It's little buildings, so no bases

Eh? Is there such a job? :thinking:

Tilt shift. For the opposite effect of the miniaturisation to create a larger DoF, it's the small DoF and the angle of view that makes real things look tiny.

So shoot from low and create a large DoF. Use small apertures, tilt lens or focus stacking.

@phil. Thanks for the advice
@alex. No mate. Judging by my results so far that's the last job I should be going for :) although it would be nice to walk to work
