Can anyone give any tips on editing this photo to make it look better?

It's a 30 second exposure of the view from our terrace on holiday. Any way to reduce the glare of the lights?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd say it was too dark to do much good, do you mean the starburst flare from the lights?

If it's RAW you might manage to pull some details from the shadows.. but if it's jpg there's probably nothing there. I wouldn't spend too long on it unless there is a significant emotional attachment.

I assume you mean the reflections from those lights rather then the starbursts? Editing the pic itself is easy (just tweaks in general), but you would need to clone the bits with the unwanted highlights out.

There is actually quite a lot of detail in the shadows that can be brought back to life even with this JPG but I can't publish here because you haven't given permission to edit. If you want me to do it for you just yell. With the shadows recovered the glare from the lights is reduced but I actually like the star bursts myself.

Never realised I specified people couldn't edit my photos. Course people can! I'm not exactly gonna be selling them or anything, my pictures aren't that good!

No emotional attachment to the photo, I just liked the look of it. Was my first time taking a longer exposure as I had a good view of the building the trees and stuff from just seating the camera on a wall. Dug out a tripod from the loft at home so I just wanted to get used to trying to take night shots.

Thanks for tips.

And AndyB, go ahead at trying to make it better.

And Ambermille, that looks good :)

Here you go then. I haven't spent a load of time on it and it could be cleaned up a bit but there is more detail. With a RAW file it would be easier but I am guessing you didn't have one.

Sorry I also meant to say I cropped a bit too to get rid of the tree on the left that is a bit unneccesary
