Due to the international break I haven't got any football on this weekend.

So I have asked the agency to try and get me in to London Irish vs Cavalieri Prato at The Madejski Stadium - 8pm kick-off

I see that the rugger b*ggers don't wear numbers on their shorts - very inconsiderate..

So tips needed as only ever shot kids rugby. As most on the Sports forum know only got a 300/2.8 and a 70-210/2.8 to go on a 1D4 and a 1Dx.

What is the lighting like at The Madejski and can you sit pretty much anywhere?

If anywhere I'm guessing behind one of the try lines and go for action, tries and celes.

Rugby players arent huge on celebrating really. You want to watch the wingers (numbers 11 and 14). for breaking the defensive line and sprinting over the try line, that will be your best bet for a spectacular dive across the line!

Sitting between the 22 and the try line you can probably get some crackers like this (not my photo!) :D

The Madejski Stadium is ok for lighting. The 1Dx will have no problem. There are location restrictions for footy - only allowed behind the advertising boards at either end. Not allowed on the sides. Don't know if this is the same for rugby, but being at the ends is probably the best place to be any ways.

For tips, take a look at Joe's gallery at the rugby portfolios and ask if Joe can put you in touch with his toggers that shoot rugby

Aye, allowed down either end. Suggest you tuck in behind the advertising boards, as the pitch in only a yard in front of them. No room for flying players to stop.

Have a chat with Gareth, the London Irish photographer. He's a helpful one.

Thanks chaps

If there are no sitting restrictions, and I`m covering 1 team, then I normal float from bout 15m in from sideline behind try line to bout 10m from half way, normally to the right side of the pitch(why right side, don`t know, but seems to me more tries on right) with the team I`m covering running to me. You would need to read the game/know the team well. You need to set up then move FAST at breaks in the play. I get pretty knackered carring a 400 in one hand and a 70-200 in the other.

here are some from my last game.
