Tiny clicking sound from the lens - is it the IS?

I just got my Canon 70-300mm with IS. When I have the shutter button half way down, I hear a tiny clicking sound from the lens. Is this normal? I didn't notice it with my friend's 70-300mm DO IS lens.

Pretty normal I think. With my 100-400L, I can hear a slight tick as the IS kicks in and out and you can actually feel it.

I have the 70-300 IS lens and it does the same
