So I went out last night to do a timelapse of the stars but it was too cloudy so I decided to have a go at the moon instead. The video is available in 1080p.

Unfortunatly the moon is blown in the video. I couldn't get any detail from it without going to such a high aperture that I lost any other illumination.

30 Seconds f/10 ISO 400.

I used spot metering but it did not seem to help.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

With a full moon you need quite a fast shutter speed to capture any detail without it blowing out. Have a look here for some more detail. You won't get any of your foreground at all if you get the moon exposed right as you are looking at 1/250th or so for a full moon.
Nice timelapse still...

The best way is to take two video's.. one exposed for the background, then one exposed for the moon and combine them
