My old Dell laptop has soldiered on, in fact it's still going strong. However, I suspect the screen might be causing me health issues. It does occasionally show a flicker, something I haven't really been conscious of during normal use. Although, having stepped back from using it recently, for one reason or another, I have found its really screwing my eyes up. I wonder if it wasn't all along. Is it time to upgrade to a laptop with a better screen?

It might be better to try an external monitor that's altogether larger. If you aren't young any more, there comes a point where small screens are not helpful. It's far more likely that it's size causing eye strain than anything else unless your monitor is really knackered and doing weird things.
