Following my mums passing over Xmas, she left us some money, so to cut a sad story short, she knew we love photography and camping so we think this is the best way so spend a little of this money, we both have Nikon so fancy upgrading.
Eileen has a D3400 and has tried my D700 but its a little too large for her small hands so I am thinking something like a D7200 for her, I am loving the D700 so looking at something with the same control buttons, so looking at the D800.
We could go all or nothing and get a D5 each but we don't want to de going overboard as we want a nice piece of glass to accompany each body as our lenses are more than adequate and relatively new but Eileen will want a nice wide walkabout zoom and I need something to fill the gap between 30-135 so what would you say about the bodies and what lenses would you recommend.

I haven't looked into this very much Kodiak, whats the difference and does the E have the same top controls as the D800 instead of the dial

Since other people shamelessly plug on this forum

I have a d800 in the sales. I had a d700 on two occasions and they are very similar except the d800 is much better.

You can program the record button for the ISO, you cant with the d700. The resolution is far better and you can crop so much more.

The E stand for Extreme moire on all my mothers tops she wears ruining every shot.

For your other half, D750 and D610 are more in line with D7200 size wise but full frame which might make lens sharing between the two of you a little easier. Easy for me to spend your money though!

I would try to get hold of a D800 to test before you ditch the D700. The IQ in certain circumstances is a big leap up but I'm not so sure AF and general speed of operation are as slick but I've never used the two at the same time. D810's are getting cheaper.... Best of both worlds.

I would be looking for something with ultra low actuations to be honest

D750 for your partner, small for a FF and similar size to the D7200. Performance is top notch. If budget will stretch then the D850 for yourself (£2650 grey from Panamoz), one hell of a camera. Cheaper options are the D810 or D800e.

I have had a long hard think and think the D800E is the one I will be going for or possibly the 810 if there is a cheap low miler out there, for the missus I think the 750 but she isn't convinced yet, its the weight putting her off

D750 is only 60-70g heavier than a D7200. Both a lot heavier than a D3xxx though admittedly.

Yes Graham, she needs something a bit lighter than a D800 as she does suffer arthritis in her hands so its does look like a D750 if she fancies FX

We are sorted, Eileen has opted for the D750 and I am having the D810 I am fine for lenses but Eileen only has one lens suitable which is the Tamron 70-300 VC so will be on the lookout for a wide angle, I have the Tamron 19-35 which is a fantastic FX lens for little money so will be thinking about one for her too.

What about the d610 for your OH? I think personally i would be looking towards a D850 if i were looking to buy now, i love my D750 but the D850 just seems to be such a logical jump upwards from it that i can really see me going for one at some stage in the next couple of years. If you are looking to keep costs down on the body then the D800E or the D810 are both excellent but likewise there is also a good reason why the D750 is still so well thought of despite it having a couple of recalls.

If I made my living out of photography then a D850 would probably be the best way to go, but I am a hobbyist so want something decent but not something that costs the earth so the D810 will be ideal for me
