Hi,

Have been posting here for a week or so and thought it was about time I introduced myself

I do something that I gather some do not approve of and that is submitting to the stock libraries as well as doing other photographic work. I am not sure why though, as although most pay microscopic sums, the pictures would otherwise not be used for anything and the earnings soon mount up enough to pay for equipment such as cameras, lenses and studio equipment and will pay for a new 5D (if the replacement is ever released :p )

People dont like microstock agencies because they make the people who run them rich while paying the photographer a minimum. They also devalue photography not sold through stock as unless they absolutely had to why would somebody pay several hunderd or maybe even thousand for a photoshoot when they can get something close enough for a few quid from a microstock site.

Thanks for the welcome - Steve, you introduced me to this forum so I would assume that you would only do that to someone who was wonderful as well :D

There are a lot of ifs/buts/fors/againsts with microstock. Yes, most of the companies are doing well from us but the better they do the higher their outlay is also going to be. It is the same with anything at the top of the foodchain, theirs will always be the biggest return.

Not everyone can afford hundreds of pounds for a photo to put on their website and it has introduced a lot of new customers to the idea of actually paying for images that someone else has shot - and not just copying them from websites.

One thing that microstock does do, if you are willing to learn, is teach you a lot about photography and digital editing and how to improve them. If you want to do well you have to learn fast
