Hi folks,

I want to make a time lapse of the sunset which then goes into moonlight & star shots...

How does one go about this???

I can't fathom it! If I use manual mode, after the sun sets, everything will turn dark. If I use a semi auto mode, dynamic range will suffer under auto ISO and etc...

What settings to use?!?!?!

Thanks in advance,
Phil.

you will need a cloudless night for the stars bit too..............

This is getting very tricky...I want stars and cloud movement!

Hmmm...

Isn't that where the timelapse element will kick in?

Take a properly exposed shot of the clouds..4 seconds later take another and 4 secs later etc.... obviously the timings are up to you. then when joining the timelapse as a video you can add as many frames as you need to fit the flow of the timelapse

I think I found the answer...

Apparently you have to manually adjust the settings as the light changes from daylight to night...

Very challenging...

Or, you could,

.. get hold of some exposure ramping software.

Based on the last couple of threads we've both posted in, would I be correct in assuming I'm on your ignore list?

Lol don't be silly. I've never put anyone on an ignore list. I can't even remember having any heated words with you, perhaps I have but I wouldn't think twice about it...

Note to all: Phil holds no grudges :-P

Right, I decided to give it a go tonight!

50 minutes ago I was at 1/2000th ISO100 and f8.

Now I am shooting 1/15th ISO1600 f4.

Changing 1/3rd of a stop every 3 shots at 20s intervals until darkness is over me... which is close :)

Hopefully I get it right!

Such a shame...

No critique needed - I know what I have to do, next one will be perfect! I'll get it done in the same location in a couple of days :)

It's not too difficult actually - I'm pretty sure I can get it spot on with the 2nd attempt. Should have known that panning comes in post! Little more EV on the night shots and the job's a good'en.

Phil,

Take a look at this camera control, http://www.digicamcontrol.com/ it may help, it has a time lapse function.
Someone else posted it in the computer section, I haven't had time to try it out yet but looks interesting.
