Hi all,

Looking to upgrade from my d3100, getting bored of basic feel to it. Few people I spoke to have said to go for the d600. But if I did this would that mean investing in new lenses? But I was also looking at the d7000 so I wouldn't have to re invest in new lenses. Is there much difference betwee the 2? I dont mind paying out for d600 but just thinking am I jumping up a few too many steps too quickly? Had my d3100 for 18 months.

Thanks Jamie

I guess to answer this question it may help if you say what type of photgraphy you're into. "Extra reach " on crop sensor vs "extra quality on full frame" I was using a D300s and have since also got a D700 so have both formats if I had to shoot something really important i'd do so on full frame.

Saying that having the best glass on either format is going to produce top quality shots if used correctly

You may want to look at posts number 9 and 24 in this thread.

I've put some really unarguable reasons why full frame is a clear upgrade over crop sensor camera. Literally... unarguable.

however.... if you never print bigger than A4 and only put stuff on the screen... full frame will not really give you any advantage other than perhaps the ability to crop more, and better low light performance.

I have no experience of either, I also have a D3100 and didn't have any thoughts of upgrading yet.

Was in Currys Monday evening and thought I'd waste some time whilst waiting for the missus :naughty:. I got the assistant to get a D7000 out of the cabinet, wished I hadn't of bothered :(....................I loved it, the feel, everything.............. don't think it'll be too long before I have an upgrade coming on :D

What you need to ask yourself is what your current camera won't do ?
We can all get into the trap of thinking we need to upgrade but I doubt you will see much difference in the results.
What I would say is always to to buy the best glass you can afford.
If you do then in the future it leaves you with the funds to just upgrade your camera body.
If you really think you will go for a full frame camera in the future then pick your glassware/lens carefully as you could find yourself with a number of DX/crop sensors lenses that will not be suitable for FX/Full frame cameras.
Personally I would keep using your current gear and only look at buying new or/sh gear when you really can't get the images your trying to get.

I agree 100%.
