As the title suggests, are they any good? I've never heard of them, as I use mostly Hoya. I'm after a decent 77mm UV filter, in the £20-£40 range.

Their Titanium range of ND filters are pretty good, I generally don't use UV filters so can't comment on those.

UV filters aren't a good idea. Cheap UV filters are a really bad idea. Cheap Tiffen UV filters are best use as drinks coasters.

I use UV filters as a means to protecting the lens glass. I know all the stuff they say about putting rubbish glass in front of good lenses, however you have to do what budget allows. I got hoya ones from Amazon and the reviews were good. And now every time I clean rain off or sand or dust I know the worst I can damage is my filter and not my Tamron 17-50 which is about 10x the price.

Ideally, I wouldn't use them at all. Like Raptor Mike, I use them specifically for protecting the lens from flying stones/debris....a very real hazard when photographing rallycars. Much cheaper to replace a filter than a lens element! I reckoned Tiffen were a cheaper filter. The Hoyas I use seem grand, but was just curious as to what other brands are any good.

Thanks for the replies, guys! (y)
