Thumbnails in Vista

Ever since I got my new lapop which runs vista, I've been having trouble with the thumbnail images for my photos. About every 1 in 3 photo files I create doesn't generate a thumbnail. I didn't have this problem with XP and there was always the option to 'refresh thumbnail' if I ever needed it. Vista doesn't seem to offer this. I've tried pressing F5 but to no avail. The only thing that seems to work is to rotate the photo in explorer, and then rotate it back.

I'm using photoshop CS4 to save files as jpegs by the way.

Anybody else had this problem or know how to solve it?

Thanks,

Matt

I had this a while ago - wouldn't show a thumbnail for all the jpeg's. Don't have a definitive answer, but I installed Picasa 3 and it shows everything now...

Try the following;
In the folder, click organize, folder & search options.
In the view tab, make sure the very top box is unticked (if it already is, tick it, apply then untick it again)

Hope this helps

Hmm, yes it does seem more prevailent when I'm using larger file sizes, as opposing saving for web. It may be related to the IE problem... Any suggestions how to solve it anyone? I guess it could just be something I'm stuck with.

Maybe I'll take DekHog's suggestion and use Picasa to look through my photos.

Picasa 3 is actually very good as a viewer - the integrated viewing in windows without using the actual Picasa thumbnail browser is fantastic. A simple + and - to zoom and 'esc' to exit... I don't think you can beat it. :D

Try the following;

Start >> programs >> accessories >> system tools >> disk clean up

It will ask you what disk you want to clean up select C (assuming that is where vista is installed), it will take a couple of minutes to scan your hard disk it will then present you with a small window various types of files listed, scroll down until you see thumbnails and make sure you have a tick in the box and click OK. Deleting all the thumbnails in Vista will force it to produce new thumbnails when they next required.

Hope it helps

Tim

Thanks to both of you. I've downloaded Picasa 3 and will try that out, but Xendistar's advice sounds worth trying out too.

Oh, just noticed Marshall's advice too. Just tried it but it didn't work unfortunately. :)
