Yes
....has an article about Jonathon Chritchley. I have just come back from one of his courses and so far, my shots seem to have missed the target with you guys. (threads in "Landscapes").

What about this one?

C&C really wanted.

Thats bl**dy good !
Not seen the other thread, but will take a look.
To be critical, I think it could be slightly darker, as the highlights seem slightly blown, and the darks could stand being slightly darker, but that could be my monitor, but I think it is a wonderful picture - I would love a print of that on my wall (and you do know a shot of yours is the first picture in a book of my life my wife made me recently..)

I think its stunning the way it is mate, get it onto canvas and onto your wall

A fraction more contrast might be good... but it's wonderful, Carole... well done:thumbs:

I think the shot is technically excellent, the jetty portion is spot on. The only let down for me is the sky which is a bit messy/busy and out of character with the simplicity of the rest of the shot but that's just a matter of luck and timing and repeat visits.

I know what you mean about the sky...it was a miserable day and I'm unlikely to be going back again just yet.....;) SW France is a bit far, just for a re-shoot!

Jonathon's website has some amazing shots......http://www.oceancaptureadventures.com/section100940_104913.html Definately worth checking out.

I really like this pic as it is. Very tranquil and serene. It would be good to see one with a little more contrast just to compare. I would be proud of a shot like that. Well done:thumbs:

Chris :)

Its the midtones, theres a lot of the same tone of grey.
You need to faff with the channel mixer a bit.
I took a look at Johnathons stuff, they're square...eh...*taps nose*;)

except this one

Yup - second version much better, but how come the picture posted my Joxby is more black than grey ?

...yes...he shoots digital, but loves the square crop.

pfft....wet lettuce then:lol:

I had a little 2 mins with your photo, I used channel mixer and shoved a load of yellow in it (same as shooting b/w film with a yellow filter), your photo could look very similar to his if more time was spent faffing.
Yours contains exactly the same elements:thumbs:
Imo, the thing with b/w is contrast, I think you can sacrifice a little shadow detail, but not too much.

Yes, yes, yes - I can see that, but the image is a different colour all together - is that processing or what ??

yeah, its kind of a watery sepia.
It still could be described as mono, if not b/w.
I like the contrast in the default Nikon Capture sepia conversion, sometimes I convert to sepia, then take out the sepia colour to be b/w again with the sepia style contrast.

Y'know, we had snow last week, I shot a roll of neopan with johnathons minimalistic style, y'know, white hill bit of busted black fence, that kind of thing....and some horses, oh gawd I forgot about the horses:'(
Well I was giddy to develope and decided to use HC-110, unfortunately the HC-110 is an open bottle, at least a year old and didn't develope a single particle of emulsion, I know this because when I fixed, it removed eveything and all I got was clear film....I cried...:'(
So dont use old developer kids, its not big and its not clever:bang:

See, why can i get pictures like that????:sulk:

:bang::bang::bang:

Oh poor you!

Jonathon also uses a NINE STOP (!) ND grad screw in filter to get those really milky seas. I had a go with it, but the wind was so strong, he was having to hold the tripod steady. They haven't come out all that well, so I haven't bothered to post them, but the effect he gets is just brill. He's just posted some new shots. A few, I think, may have been taken when I was out there.

PS: I like your version of my shot!

I've posted this guys deviant art before, he does the same thing with a 5D, crops square....(another wet lettuce)

wtheck do we get 9stop ND filters anyway ?

Havent seen your other images Carole (havent been about too much) but my initial gut was to agree with Steep.
I do however really like your 2nd version, the moodier look definately softens the slighty busy sky and improves the overall air of serenity.
Me, Id be well chuffed with that!

He got his from someone on-line (America).

S'what I was thinking, whether its an online aquaintence or a trade seller, it'll be the US.

Warehouse express sell 6 and 10 stop NDs made by B+W.

82mm filters are thin on the ground, especially ND's.
They have a stonking B/W polarizer though, for £250:lol:

Joxby - if you want to use cokin -style filters, Formatt Filters are very good, cheaper than some, and sold me a 9 stop ND.. (also know as Hi-Tech filters i believe) I bought 100mm to use with my 10-22mm, so I guess they'll cover an 82mm lens....
