Thinking of updating to Lightroom CC... Catalog question!

As the title suggests, I'm thinking of buying the new Lightroom/Photoshop CC subscription, not a bad deal for £8.57/month. Just curious how I'd go about migrating my existing catalogue - I have Lightroom 3.x at present.

Can I install CC alongside, and essentially just open CC and 'import from catalog' or some equivalent process? Many thanks in advance!

I think it should just open your catalog and convert it for you, thats what it did for me when I opened LRCC having used LR5

It prompts whether you want to convert, but actually makes a whole new copy so you still have the LRx for use on another machine (not sure if they are BC between versions or not as I've not tried)

LR3 uses the old process engine (I think) so it might also ask you if you want to convert all your photos to the new one as well (which I'd recommend). You can do this later as a batch or on individual photos easily enough so it's no big deal right now.

When I just installed CC I just pointed it at my LR5 cat and it asked me if I wanted to upgrade it to a LR6 cat (yes) and it did the rest. Lightroom has always been fairly slick at upgrades and swapping between different catalogues IMO.

There seems to have been a few install issues reported. Make sure you have the latest version of adobe CC installed and you're logged in before downloading and install LR.

That's what I did, and it went fine, other than the default language being set to Spanish, so check that in the adobe CC settings first
