I really like the look of the K10D spec but have seen a review that says its image sharpness in questionable. Has anyone here got first hand user experience?

I haven't got first hand experience, but there is a thorough review at DPReview. Pentax K10D Review.

It mentions the sharpness issues when shooting jpeg, but if you shoot Raw, it is as good as the competition, as you can see here in the very recent review of the Canon 40D. Go to the compared to section of the review and check the jpeg and Raw comparisons.

Hope that helps. ;)

Hi,

I own the Samsung version of the K10D - the GX-10 & there's NO issue with sharpness.

This information is based on some slight mis-information given in a review on DPREVIEW about incamera JPGs. The Pentax by default applies less sharpening to JPG than most other manufacturers - the "issue" is resolved by simply selecting "Bright" mode in the menu settings, unfortunately the review failed to mention this & this "story" has continued to rumble along on the WWW.

Not that thorough a review then. :whistling: ;)

I have a Pentax K10D and a Canon 400D both fitted with Sigma 17-70's and if anything the JPEGs from the Pentax are sharper than from the Canon. Now I know there could be many reasons for this not least variations in the performance of the two lenses, but I've certainly never noticed the Pentax being softer. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's on a par with my Nikon D80 (fitted with the kit 18-70mm).

I have a Pentax K10D, and I quite like it. I have posted some images on here with it [and any problems with the pics is probably user error not camera error] but I agree...DD will prob try and make you go Nikon....but I looked at the D80 and preferred the Pentax.
The advice to me was "go and look, and get what feels right"

whatever happens don't talk to Diddy Dave, he'll superglue your hand to a Nikon !!:lol::lol:

Funny - but really DD doesn't give a toss what you buy - they are all good these days, so if you like it - buy it

We have two Pentax users at the club now, and both seem happy enough, one (Dellipher) is nuts though :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo: so make your own mind up :D

Oh b****r, just noticed I've sat on my Nikon-super-glue :shake:

I think that in this price range, Pentax K10D, Sony A100 and Olympus E-510 have the best price/performance ratio.
In my opinion, it's up to your personal preferences, but if I wasn't after a lightweight combo, I'd probably go for the K10D, it seems to be a very good performer, bundles with pretty good raw software, and image quality from raws is very nice.
http://raw.fotosite.pl/ -> lots of raw samples, might be useful.

I brought the K10D after doing lots of research. It boiled down to the Sony alpha 100, Nikon D80 or the Pentax. The Pentax felt right in my hands & after nearly 1 month of ownership I'm more than happy with it. Its quick & easy to change the aperture, shutter & film speed. Focusing is quick & all in all I'm well chuffed with it. Jessops had a good deal on
it (I almost had the Samsung because of the price difference) & the deal was done. Buy with confidence.
