Ok, like many of us I use Flickr for sharing. Overall i find it works very well and is a good source of some marvellous images.

I have a routine. If someone favs an image of mine, i always look through their stuff and try and return the favour. Just polite I think.
However! More and more i'm visiting peoples photo stream with no images at all. Then of course i look at their favourites.

Call me naive but I honestly didn't know porn was allowed on Flickr! Ha! I just assumed there would be some filter or something.
I really have nothing against porn, it is what it is, but this is BAD porn, bordering on the grotesque!
So it appears to me that some people who aren't even photographers scour flickr to add to their collection .
I block said people .

Anyway, that's my pet flickr peave for march 3rd.

I now return you to your regular programming..

There is a filter, somewhere you can turn on/off the ability to see photos marked as moderate/restricted - which any material such as nude photos etc will be marked as.

I try and view everyone who gives me a fav/comment, but sometimes I loose track!

I don't want to lose the images marked as moderate, as i've posted a number of those myself, i was just surprised they made it onto flickr in the first place.

Never knew there was any of that stuff on there.

Boudoir shots yes.

But maybe boudoir is tame to some people and abhorrent to others?

All down to how broadminded you are maybe?

I discovered why suddenly my images of Birds were getting loads of views. I was putting in the search words Male,Female, Cock and Hen. There must really be some desperate people viewing Flickr.

One of the highest viewed photos I have has Dick in the title. I suspect they get sorely disappointed when they see it's of a man walking through a tunnel!

My most viewed image is one of paint bouncing off a loudspeaker covered with a gentleman's protector. I used the word condom in the title. Woosh. Massive number of views. They will all be disappointed!

Ha ! That's funny right there !

Just don't think I'm being impolite if I ignore all those things that pop up. I just use Flikr to host my pictures, and not as a sort of social networking place. Unlike some people, who worry about the number of likes they get from complete strangers and pimp their submissions.

Don't think anyone said you were being impolite, do whatever you want.
Personally I appreciate it when "complete strangers" enjoy my images. Let's face it, this is the internet, we're all complete strangers...thank god ha!

Flickr has always had a darker side. As does any photography related site, it seems you can build it and the dirty old men with cameras appear as if by magic...

oh yes, we've had one or two - there's a reason that the whole "commenting on the model" rule was brought in - as we definitely had a couple of (presumably) very early adolescents making comments about a number of the shots in N & G - generally on a friday night after they'd been on the alcopops / wine gums... they didn't last long.

I use Google to host my pictures, but the private ones, which I share with links per album. If the picture is below 16 MP and you allow Google to reduce higher resolution pics (settings), nothing will be changed on your photo, but you have unlimited storage. The pictures I put on flickr, I like the world to see, else I wouldn't put it there. And I like it, if other people think one of my pictures is good. And I myself like it, watching pictures done by others, as long as they are good and inspiring.

If someone unknown faves or comments my pictures, and I'm curious, I first check, what is in the favourites section of that person. If it's random, I know there's just a script working and I ignore that account. If it's a serious person, the favourite section might be full of excellent photos, I then enjoy and will also have a look on that persons own photos. ;)

Things that bother me about flickr..

The speed, over the last couple of months it seems to be extremely slow for me. Anyone else?

Not noticed it to be honest but I've not posted anything there for a while.

Probably due to the amount of data stored.
Just like a pc it will slow down in time if not upgraded enough.

I ate Flickr

apart from it being nonce central, I object to it laying waste to threads by the removal of content hosted by it.

I dunno whether to blame flickr for that or its users.

ban it tbh

:D

Flickr isn't short on storage ;)

Can't say I've noticed any slowdown myself? Sometimes it can get buggy when uploading larger files but recently it's been fine for me.

Flickr used to be incredibly slow, to the level that trying to view anyone's galleries was an exercise in frustration. It's much better now, but my dislike hasn't reduced, even though there's no reason for it any more.

At some stage I should probably get an account just to self-promote.
