Undecided The Trinnacle, Peak District

Do you mean the one near Dovestone Reservoir?

@PaulJ1969

Park in Binn Green car park or the lay by immediately after as you head down the A635 towards Greenfield

Walk down the road and turn left on the access road (or from the car park there is a path down through the woods) and as you go past the cottage on the left you can choose route 1 or 2

Route 1 is more direct but the climb up from the path is steep and a bit taxing if you're laden with photography gear. On the tops you can walk directly across but there is a path that meanders around in a clockwise direction then takes you to the trinnacles.

Route 2 takes you alongside the reservoirs then you follow the path up past the brook before taking a left near the bridge to walk up the side of Greenfield Brook.

Either way, give yourself an hour to get up there - you can do it quicker but you will be pushing it.

It's somewhere I've looked at recently and want to give it a go. It's only 45 mins from me and looks like the sun is setting at a good position at this time of year for a shot or two!!

Many thanks for this I've seen pictures of the Trinnacle and never realised it was this part of the Peak District. I've been to Dovestones quite a few times with the camera with a mad Spaniel who's lead is tied round my waist. I normally park on the main car park at Dovestones and walk it up to Greenfield Reservoir and always wondered what was further on along the path and now I know!!

I chose 'route 2' which is a b*****d. Although I did go up and over the rocks. I then decided to go vertical up the side to reach the top. Awesome view when you get to the top. On the way back to the car I walked back along the top until you start to notice your descending a little then went straight down towards greenfield.

Have fun!

Up she goes: (beware of the slippy rocks, they can be lethal)

Great photos there David. Not a place to take the Spaniel with me. First time I went as far as Greenfield from the path on route 2 and walked along the straight bottom part where the slope is to the other side. Then back to Dovestones car park. Got a bit scary at times as no bath and a Spaniel that pulls like an ox. Great views from The Trinnacle but I don't like heights!!!

It's a long way down i can assure you. Certainly get a few butterflies when you look down from it.

The first time i went in search of it i parked in the big layby on the main road and walked across Saddleworth Moor. Needless to say i failed miserably. The second time was more successful.

Thanks Adrian. Your routes are similar to the ones on the OS maps app.

Well tried to tackle this yesterday and took route 2, everything was going great until we got to the stream where the rocks are to climb up, we got so far up but couldn't pass the wall or the stream so came back down to find somewhere else to climb up but there was nowhere to cross over the stream and them rocks are lethal so we gave up :( but will be going back to try again at some point

Nice shots there David.

I guess the walk on route 2 will have had quite a bit of run off water coMing off the tops.

Did you stay for sunset?

That's good to know. Im hoping to get there later this week, weather permitting.

Might just take the wellies and walking polls.

Yes we stayed for sunset as we were already there but it was a poor one, the sky was just a grey mass :( then I drove on to Buxton to pick my daughter up in rush hour  itching to get back though because I don't like to be defeated :D
