Hey guys i can not really put it off much more, my lenses are getting quite dirty now, from rain/dust etc on the end glasss (where filters screw into) so im looking to clean them now. The only thing i have at the moment is the soft clothes (like the ones you get with glasses) but im guessing its not good just to wipe the glass with one of these as any dust etc will just get rubbed round and end up scratching the glasss (thats why i have left the lenses till now) so really i just want to know the best way to clean the lenses and any tips from you pro's would be great, not sure if id need any fluid also? im a total noob when it comes to this subject

all the best

Martin

I just use a combination of a lens pen and a rocket blower. Never had any problems.

thanks tommy i will look at these pens and rocket blowers, thank you, so you dont use any fluid then tommy, does this method get off rain/water marks too?

edit, i see these cheap £1 lens pens on the bay, im guessing there not any good for the price>?

Blower to remove light contamination.
Small fine soft brush to remove bits from around the edge of the lens.
Lens pen or dedicated lens tissue and lens cleaning fluid - cleaning in a circular motion from the centre out to the edge.

That's how I do it too.

Hi

I have never had any problems removing rain marks etc. using a lenspen. The lenspen uses fluid so you don't need to use any extra.

Personally I have only used the actual Lenspen branded one and a Hama branded one. Both do the job great although I thought the Hama lasted a bit longer.

The cheaper one's maybe be fine but I haven't used them myself.

Rocket blower is essential, I only ever dry wipe with lens cloths unless there's something sticky on the lens (like dried sea water).

In worst cases I use a tiny drop of my own cleaning fluid, which is isopropanol (isopropyl) mixed 50/50 with distilled water (because pure water is actually an effective solvent).

Some go on about damage to the lens coating with rubbing alchohols, most seem to say it's fine, i've never had a problem. Where I used to work, the "experts" used 99% IPA to clean lenses for the Nikon LV150 (£15'000) in the lab, sooooooooooo I take bad reports with a pinch of salt.

I often wonder if some numpty once tried to use acetone on their lens, thinking it was IPA? Because acetone is nasty stuff, it melts certain types of plastic and would almost certainly damage the lens coating.
