I have really been getting into photography for a few months now, and I feel my skills are progressing nicely. I understand what things do, but dont really understand how it all works. For example, Aperture effects DoF, wide open gives a low DoF whereas a narrow aperture gives a high DoF, but I would really like to learn why and how. Also, things such as what effect a Full Frame sensor has on a lens, in comparison crop, and what exactly is the difference between the 2? How does it work? What makes a lens/body 'good quality' ? Why aren't megapixels as important as people make out? Basically, I want to know exactly how a camera actually works.

At the minute I feel as though I am playing with settings, and getting the desired effect, but i am not really sure how or why. I think the technical knowledge can only help improve my photography skills, and also help me make more informed decisions in the future when it come to purchasing new bodies/lenses.

Now, I would prefer some bedtime reading, rather than a collage course, as I currently work full time, study for a degree in Computing Studies on a part-time basis and run my own (very) small web design business from home, so I dont get a lot of spare time

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rab, cheers for the link, great site, I have used it before. As a say, i understand the effect the various settings have on the image, but I am really interested in how and why they have such effects.

I think you'll like it, it is a great book I use it as reference all the time, the authors are my lecturers at uni :P
