Yes
My dad has - for his own reasons - given up on his SLR photography and bequeathed me all his old gear...

It comprised Canon FD kit (with an EOS adaptor), so aperture doesn't work and it's all MF. One of the items was a lens I'd seen as a child many years ago but it was the Tamron 500mm F/8 SP.

I gave it a little play last night and there's something really, really funny/cool about being able to get right up close to pretty much anything that's around 300-500m away (I've a crop sensor, so even funnier). Yes, it's MF. Yes, it's prone to flare. But for old kit, it really is great fun and is pretty reasonably sharp for the kind of photos I was taking.

There is no point to this thread other than to thank my dad (he'll never read this), and enjoying stuff that may have been written off by a large percentage of the world. I will post pics if anybody is interested (when I get home)...

Anybody else 'discover' old kit that could have been sentenced to recycling?

Have you experienced the "doughnut effect" yet? This is the rendering of oof items as circles and evident in this photo taken with the Tamron 500

Not yet - I need to spend an afternoon with it to really see what I can do with it. But that looks awesome. :D
