As you know, when we were forced to move sites, we had to choose a new name, and therefore had to quickly design a new logo.
This was very kindly done for us by Jonny, and we've been using it as our logo for the past month.
Recently though we've been discussing it, and were wondering if anyone else would like to have a go at designing a logo for us.

You can either start afresh, or modify the current design, whichever tickles your fancy. The only stipulations are :

It has to have a transparent background (so we can use it with different forum styles).
- Maximum 600 pixels wide and 120 pixels high (although less is perfectly fine).
- Preferably quite a simple design (something that we can also transform into an "Abbreviated" logo)
- Available in TIF format when finished

We may not end up changing the logo at all, instead, sticking with the current one. So please don't be offended if we don't use your offering.
We must state though, that any logo you offer will belong to Talk Photography, to use exclusively etc. This isn't because we're like the BBC and like to own everything. :p It's simply to stop any future fallouts that might arise, and prevent anyone being able to say "That's mine, you can't use it anymore".
That's not to say any of you will, because we honestly don't think you will. Nevertheless we have bitter experience in that area ;), so we'd like to prevent it happening, just incase.

The "winner" will get to see their work at the top of the forums, the gallery, the main site etc (we have some great plans for the imminent growth of Talk Photography). Your logo will be seen at the top of every page on friendliest photography site on the internet.

Thanks Hacker. I like the overall design of it. Nice clean and simple. Not too sure on the lenses though, makes it look like a pair of eyes, with a t for a nose :D

Thought I'd have a go with some text effects, and came up with this...

...it actually didn't save properly :shrug: but it should be easy enough to recreate and/or alter if your interested in anything along those lines.

p.s. btw, it was transparent, I just set it on a white background so you could see what it'd be like at the top. :)
 
nice efforts chaps, personally i think Jonnys is pretty good, the origianl idea was something like talk|Photography with that coloured line, and jonny came up with the speech bubble, which just rounded it off nicely!
 
Some great ideas here. Completely different ones too. It just goes to show how different we all creatively think :thumbs:

Marcel, I think you are mad (I've long suspected this). What on earth is wrong with the present one? It meets all the criteria and is in use and is recognised. It is also a design that can be easily utilised in an embroidered badge on t-shirts and the like.

The only change I would suggest is that the vertical mauve bar be extended so that the bottom is in line with the bottom of the letters and ditto the top. Whilst Jonny is doing this he may like to experiment with other colours for the vertical bar - before settling on mauve.
 
Blue you could very well be right.

Matty has said all along he loves the current logo...and saying that so do I.

I personally though said there was something just not right about it. It looked nice, but something needed tweaking, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what. Then I suggested why don't we open it up to the members, get them involved and see if they can either come up with something different, something tweaked a bit, or something new.

I think the thing that doesnt sit right for me, is that all the elements are there, I think they're not in the right place, or need resizing slightly. They look as thought they would benefit from being moved around or adjusted ever so slightly. Kinda like a shot that has everything in it, but doesnt adhere to the rule of thirds when it should. Like I say though, as soon as I saw it I said it was great.

If everyone else thinks it's perfectly fine though, then I'm more than willing to shurrup about it and leave it as is :D


Mad? That's a scurrilous rumour, and when I get hold of the pancake that started it....
As for the mauve...It's more blue to me...but I'm currently arguing this out with Matty...and I have colourblindness on my side :

the colour i used is: #7d52f7

the | is easy to resize, its only a text font after all. I did try and get a simple idea, my original had a drop shadow but my beta testing team didnt lik eit, lol

I have a feeling I may have shot myself in the foot with this request, from what people have told me I think I may be lynched and placed in an asylum if I vote to stray from the current logo.

By all means keep playing though, if anything, it can be a learning curve for you. Doing things like this certainly helps me improve and learn new things.
 
Anybody else think the word "talk" is just too weird? or am I having a Woody Allen "wheat" moment?

After doing the logo's, the word "talk" just seems, wrong :thinking:

...Dunno why though :shrug:
 
:lol: It's like when I was a kid, I found I could make a word sound wierd, by repeating it to myself over and over.

The more you repeat a word, the more silly it starts to sound. Strange isnt it?

Really! ... I think...your not going to like this; the current logo is as very weak, rushed looking, and makes the place look cheap and careless.



...and I also think the word 'talk' looks better in capitals like in Sonseys post.

The rest are good but hers really has the feel of what its about.

Would even works without the "Let's"

I do like that Marianne. I think it'd look better without the "Let's", and squeeze the T closer in, but that's just me being picky.

Besides, like I say, I do like it :)

theres definetly some subliminal messaging going on in marrianes logo.....



i recon stick with what you know and keep the albeit highly tacky original logo
 
I really like the concept of Mariannes but the main font looks a bit oldy worldy and I would prefer something clean, modern and snappy.

This was as far as I got before giving up - mind you I was using a bitmap editor!! I can see us sticking with the original.

Funny you should say that, I always find women can create something out of nothing far better than a man.

Only joking. ;)

Although I do think most women are naturally creative, (Think your work is great too) so I am surprised you'd say that. I guess it’s because us blokes don't worry about loving ourselves and our art, where’ as you women worry about loving yourselves and your art too much....You know how blissfully ignorant men are when criticized. :lol: (I bet that makes little sense.)

Me included obviously.
