This has to be the sexiest tripod head ever

The EKI Gimbal Head 1

Made from Carbon Fibre with a price tag of 1300 Euro.

I know its a Wimberley rip off but look at it.

I have just got to have one.

I have never trusted carbon fibre, one of my mates used to be really into windsurfing and every component he bought that was made from carbon fibre ended up breaking apart on him. I think the massive increase in price just to shave of a few grams of weight is pointless. There was a thread on here a couple months back that made me laugh, people were suggesting not eating breakfast or losing weight in order to save those precious few grams.

Carbon fibre is very strong but only as strong as its weakest link (what its bonded with)

cant echo it enough, the tripod in my opinion "must" weigh more than the camera/lens combi.

If you want lightweight, i believe aldi do plastic ones at about £20

Its not about the weight of the item its about the look of it in carbon fibre.

Does that mean my 3540LS is no good for my 1dmk2 and 500f4?;)

It's not looks or weight. It's weight for strength.

Carbon fibre is stronger than steel in weight to strength ratio. So make the head the same weight as steel and it will be much stronger.

dont even know what one is, but im guessing its not £20 from aldi based on the other kit you own.

The point is Weight is an important factor, just because carbon fibre is strong dont mean it cant get blown over....

My Trek Madone road bike is carbon fibre and is supremely strong. As others have said, it depends on the bonding process.

My Trek is processed using "OCLV" - optimum compaction low void, so any air gaps etc are extremely limited and minimised. I trust it to descend down some high Pyrenean mountain passes this summer without incident.

PS. that tripod head looks very bling and trick. I'd imagine it's been strength tested

I've seen that head before, "However, the product did let me down when I went to move the rig. No matter how tight I turn either the pan control or the tilt control, the head will not lock the lens down and I am always able to move the lens in any axis without having to push very hard." stops me even considering it though.

My CF Gitzo is light and fantastic, but no it doesn't cost £20 ;)
