So with all this stormy weather I thought I might head to the sea and try and catch a few shots of the waves crashing on the rocks etc, but before I take a trip out can anyone give me some pointers?
I've had a look at some other pics on here and they have nice blue or angry cloudy skys with really white wave breaks and are all very sharp, I can guarantee that none of mine will come out like that and will just be dull and no doubt slightly out of focus.

My shooting technique seems to be take loads of shots at different settings and hope one comes out alright, I really need to learn more about apature size and shutter speed as this lottery style is starting to get frustrating now

Hi Rich, I reckon your first move should be to get a grasp of the basic principles of aperture, shutter speed, iso and how they work together plus an understanding of your camera's menu's and settings.
This will give you the understanding required to grab the shot you want be it with creamy waves and smooth water or with every detail and splash.

I'm sure there must be someone in Devon who offers short basic training sessions such as the ones I run in London.
Don't leave it to chance, you're very unlikely to get the result you want.

I've read a couple of books and looked at loads of info on the internet, but I'm still unsure as to how you choose the correct apature for a shot, the shutter speed is easier to work out as the camera almost tells me what it should be, I just have to tweak it until it looks right.
