I was standing by the pond in the local park watching the antics of the mallards and Canada geese. Suddenly there was a loud whooshing noise and a large Canada goose almost took my head off. At the same time there was an almighty crash, another goose that was chasing the first one had flown straight through an adjacent tree. I saw it fight its way through breaking branches over one inch thick with lots of branches falling to the ground. Surprisingly it suffered no ill effects whatsoever and carried on chasing the other:eek:.......Mmm such is the power of the mating urge.;)

Large birds can be quite disruptive over breeding rights or territory ... all 'reason' gives way to instinct.
I saw a Swan yesterday beating up another and had it cornered amongst brambles, I managed to disturb it and it sauntered off but the poor victim remained motionless for around 15 minutes before nervously getting up and extricating itself.

Then of course there are Mallards!
